Specs and Design

This bike is a great deal for the price and it’s perfect for beginners. I love the flat bar because it makes it so much more comfortable to ride. Additionally, the geometry is fantastic for both speed and hill climbing. The derailluers shift quickly, smoothly and accurately with only minimal adjustments needed out of the box. Some people have said that the brakes squeal but I think that might just be something that happens with all disk brakes regardless of how well they’re adjusted or what brand they are.

Assembling this bike is super easy too – all you need is an adjustable wrench (or open-end wrenches), a set of good hex keys, and a screwdriver and you’re good to go!

Schwinn Men’s Volare 1300 700c Road Bike Review: Is It Worth The Money?

The Phocus 1400 was built to be a light yet sturdy exercise bike that would enable cyclists to leave the gym and go on excursions. The aluminum frame and stiff fork assist in this.

Technical Specifications

The Schwinn Phocus 1400 has a lot of strengths. With an aluminum road frame and a steel fork, you can ride on the street or on the bike path with ease and agility.

Pros
  • Easy assemble
  • Rides smooth
  • It’s ideal for “tall” woman or “short” man
  • Light 700C wheels
  • Drop handlebar
Cons
  • Seat is poor quality
  • Bottom bracket and crankset are of pretty low quality
  • Ball bearings in both wheels are over squeezed
  • Seat stem is not adjustable angle

The Shimano 14-speed rear derailleur with A050 shifters makes shifting between gears simple and free of grinding.

This model also includes an SR Suntour alloy crank for a wide gear range. Schwinn recognized that they would not be able to use bad brakes because to the risk of putting low-quality parts on a bike intended for fast biking and fitness.

The strong and lightweight alloy rims have a beautiful, functional paired spoke pattern. The classic-style bike is black with white Schwinn branding and only a few small red stripes on the drop bar–definitely designed with “man’s man” in mind.

Recommendation

Everything was set way too tight, and I felt like the entire thing was filled with sand, so I took everything apart cleaned it, re-greased, and adjusted everything so that it ran smoothly. The bottom bracket and crankset are of utilitarian quality but they’re all right considering the price of the bike. The brakes, shifters, and derailleurs are all quite high-quality. The microshift shifters on the one we were given are excellent quality and the derailleurs are shimano claris. The wheels aren’t terrible and weren’t out of true far.

I’ll make upgrades as the years go by. The first items that spring to mind are in the following order:

  • seat
  • pedals
  • bottom bracket
  • crankset

The bike is only a bargain if you know how to put it together and fix it up. If not, you will likely be disappointed in the performance because it won’t come assembled or tuned. It takes a few hours, some knowledge, and good tools to make this investment worth your while.

Highlights

This bike features high-strength alloy rims. Alloy wheels are made by combining two different metals, which results in a metal with better overall properties. The spoke configuration on these rims is strong and lightweight, making for a durable and affordable bike overall.

One of my primary concerns when searching for a bike was comfort. Once I discovered the 18-inch Schwinn men’s phocus, however, I realized that it would be the perfect fit for me. The saddle has a quick release, meaning that you can adjust the height with little difficulty. I have been riding this outstanding bike for over month now and could not be happier with its performance!

There are so many possibilities for utilizing this bike. Whether you’re going to work, racing, or riding as a form of exercise, this bike will have you covered. It’s also useful if you need to go down a narrow road. I use it as a workout equipment since I ride at night after work. He also bought it for racing because of its speed; it’s great for racing too!

To begin with, this bike has 14 speeds. It includes a Shimano front and rear derailleur. I learned that a bike with Shimano components is the way to go after studying the bicycle industry. A050 shift levers on the Schwinn men’s Phocus 1400 700C dropbar ensure quick and smooth gear shifting. The alloy caliper brakes on this bike provide strong stopping power. This bike’s drive train is also very responsive, and its front wheel is unlocked and detachable.

Functionality

This Schwinn has a Shimano 14-speed rear derailleur with A050 shifters for fast and simple gear changes and is equipped with a drop bar, an aluminum frame, and a rigid fork for agile and quick riding.

This is particularly essential for road use, as well as the need for dependable shifting. The alloy rims are high profile and have a paired spoke pattern that gives them strength while being lightweight.

The usefulness of this road bike, taking into account the quality of the bike, price, and intended usage, is fantastic. This bike’s intended market is road use, fitness, casual cycling, and general exercise. This Schwinn Phocus 1400 isn’t a professional road bike by any means, but it’s agile and fast enough for easy afternoon rides around town or on trails.

Overall Impression

The Schwinn Bike gives off an air of maturity. With its timeless black design and higher-quality components, this road bike under $300 is one of the greatest available. The appearance isn’t anything to write home about with a simple black paint job and white Schwinn logo, but it’s appealing to guys who don’t want a bright bike or are just concerned with concealment.

If you’re experienced with bikes and have the right tools, this bike is an amazing deal. However, if you plan to assemble it from the box and then ride it without making any adjustments, you will be disappointed by how poorly aligned the bike’s bearings and wheels are. With a bit of work though, this bicycle goes from being terrible to incredible.

Conclusion

This is an ideal bike for beginning road cyclists since it’s both comfortable and forgiving. Beginners will enjoy the comfort and practice of riding this 14-speed bike for thousands of miles to come.

At worst, bikers will have to change their tires and tubes after a few thousand miles, but this is one of the more reliable, well-made road bikes with better component quality than most other bikes on the market from Schwinn. They haven’t lived up to their name yet.

The bike is cost-effective and of high quality, comparable to more expensive brands. Its design is classic yet simple, its components are good if put together by a professional, and it’s perfect for beginners who want to use it on the road for fitness or leisure purposes.

If you’re new to biking, or just learning how to ride on hills, I recommend giving this bike a try. You’ll learn how to use the gears and control your speed while riding downhill. Plus, it’s excellent value for the price!
